Character Education focuses on providing students with the confidence, resilience and ability to make ethical, sound decisions that will enable them to become agents of positive change within the wider world. It is not an abstract idea - it is an intellectually established method through which students can acquire character traits that allow them to participate and succeed in a range of different fields, often ones that they have not aspired to in the past.

Townley Grammar School is currently at the forefront of developing Character Education nationally and has established partnerships with IPEN (International Positive Education Network), Canterbury Christchurch University, ACE (Association of Character Eudcation) and Dulwich College.  Within this context, the school has created a series of CPD workshops tailored for everyone from Senior Leader level through to trainee teachers that are aimed at assisting schools with their own Character Education journey. Whether you are looking to develop or embed Character Education in your school, the team at Townley are able to provide the expertise and networking links to achieve this.

"Just wanted to say I feel really privileged to be at the conference today and you know when you've been to a successful conference, film, play etc as it stays with you..... Very powerful!.” Conference Delegate

“I just wanted to drop you a brief note to say how impressed I was with the Conference today. I thought all speakers were insightful, interesting and inspiring in their own different way.” Conference Delegate

How you can be involved

How you can get involved…

Character Education Conferences

Townley Grammar School hosts a number of Character Education Conferences in partnership with ACE (The Character Education Subject Association) and Canterbury Christchurch University.  At these events, highly distinguished keynote speakers explore both the principles and benefits of Character Education and share their expertise.  The aim of this is so that schools can create their own frameworks or build on existing frameworks for Character Education provision.

In recognition that character strengths are ‘a greater predictor of success in university and in life than mere exam passes’ (Sir Anthony Seldon), we hope that each conference will bring Character Education to the forefront of teaching.

Conferences are suitable for everyone from Senior Leader level through to trainee teachers.  If you would like to be added to our mailing list so that you can be kept up to date with future events, please email us at: CharacterEd@townleygrammar.org.uk  with your name, organisation and contact details.

Sponsor

In the current climate there has been a rise in mental health issues in teenagers and young adults and therefore, as educationalists, we have a responsibility to address these issues and ensure that students are equipped with strong character traits that will prepare them for life beyond school.  As an outward facing school, our vision is to highlight, promote and implement the principles of Character Education to schools nationally.

Your support will help us reach out to a growing number of schools and will therefore ensure that children from every financial and social background benefit from Character Education provision.  Any donations will make a real difference for current and future students.  Gifts of every size are welcome from those who wish to assist us in extending the support we can offer and help us to embed our vision for Character Education nationally. We do not aim to profit from the support and training we offer; any fee income is used to cover the costs involved.
