In the half term, I took part in a Bexley schools Golf tournament representing Townley at Sidcup Golf Club in Hurst Road. I was the only one from the school which put some pressure on me as it was only my score that counted so I had to play well. I was up against students from Hurstmere, Chis & Sid, Bexleyheath Academy, Beths, Harris Academy, Erith and Cleeve Park. There were only 3 girls playing (including me) and 17 boys all from Year 7 to Year 11. We were separated into groups of 3 and I was put with the 2 other girls from Chis & Sid. We went around with Jo Stokes, a former PE teacher from Cleeve Park and it was so much fun! A lot of the students taking part are members of Sidcup Golf Club including me. I was offered a one year free scholarship after being spotted by the Junior Organiser – Amber Naqvi – a month ago and here I am now!
Once we had finished playing golf, we had some food and waited for the results and it turned out that I had WON! I was actually quite shocked to be honest as I had never taken part in a proper competition before! When I went up to get my prize I had the cheesiest smile on my face and I could see that none of the boys were very happy. My score was 52 and the other 2 girls had 75 and 76 so I beat them by quite a margin. The highest score for the boys was 58 so they were close. I won a mini trophy that stays at the club’s trophy shelf so they gave me 2 boxes of golf balls and a ball-marker to take home.
