Townley Grammar School enjoyed yet more success and celebration of youth action at the 2017 First Give Awards, held at London’s City Hall. Entering its fourth year of participation, the school added “Alumnus of the Year” to its previous “School of the Year” awards. The award was earned by Chloe Matthews, an inspirational Lower Sixth student who campaigned for and raised over £1800 for The Shine Cancer Charity. Chloe is a role model for staff and students alike, she is a very worthy winner. Mr Deehan, Mr de Fabian and Mrs Blazeby were also in attendance, supporting the students.
Townley’s commitment to First Give has seen 820 students take part in the programme over the last three years., raising over £5000 for local charities. More importantly it has empowered our students to be the change they want to see in the world.
Six students from 11 Athene- Ike Akinsola, Bavleen Atwal, Cindy Iwu, Emer Sukonik, Alisha Thapa, Helen Mei performed an outstanding rendition of “Wade by the Water” accompanied by an original spoken word piece. Townley Grammar School students were congratulated and praised by the invited guests, including Sinclair Beecham, founder of Pret a Manger - entrepreneur and Chair of First Give.
The evening represented the very best of Townley’s school values and the admirable character of our students.
