Year 8 students Network with the top Women in IT

A lucky group of Year 8 students attended an afternoon tea event in London where they met the top talent in tech shortlisted for the Women in IT Awards 2019.  The event was hosted by Amazon Web Services on Wednesday 30th January at the Marriott Grosvenor Park Lane.  Townley were fortunate enough to be invited to take Year 8 students to join this informal networking session where they could learn from the experts talking about their own experiences.

At the start of the afternoon the students visited the The Tomorrow's Tech Careers Fair to explore and gain ideas about the opportunities available in tech industry.  The afternoon tea allowed the students to ask questions and discuss the possible futures they could explore within the tech industry as well as potential apprenticeship and graduate programmes which they may have found out about at the careers fair.

One Townley student who attended the event gave this response when asked about hearing from experienced professional women working in the tech industry.

"A majority of women there did not originally have technology based degrees, as during their university years women were not encouraged to work in STEM.  It is inspirational that they were able to create their own career path in technology despite this". Mary, Year 8

Thank you to Amazon Web Services for hosting such a great networking session and for Future Foundations who co-ordinated all the schools invited along.
