4 Day Residential Leadership Programme - GSL Catalyst Years 7 & 8

Global Social Leaders (GSL) Catalyst is a unique intensive leadership course, designed to develop leadership skills and an understanding of global issues enabling students to be a leader in life and society.  In July 2018 Townley Grammar School and Future Foundations are running a GSL Catalyst programme hosted at Queen’s College, Taunton for students in Year 7 and 8 attending Townley Grammar School.

GSL Catalyst is a transformational leadership experience and sustainable development programme developed by Future Foundations and the Wellington Leadership Institute that brings together young people who are driven to make social change on a global scale.  It is the introductory programme to our longer globally mixed programmes.

The programme develops each participant’s personal understanding of different leadership styles, and how to show leadership for oneself, in school, and in the community.

Participants will develop their understanding of the global challenges we face and how, through partnership and innovation, we can solve them. They will be taken through real life cases to demonstrate good project management and how to create their own impactful projects to take on after the programme ends.

Alongside the leadership course, the students will also have the opportunity to take part in a one-day excursion to the Eden Project.

2017-18 GSL Catalyst Residential Programme - Student Comments

Student Experience of the Trip

Year 7 GSL Comments

I thought that GSL was an amazing experience was challenging at some points but has influenced how I think I can change the world.  The team at GSL were an inspirational group of people and the Eden Project just pushed this idea further.  I would definitely recommend this to anyone who would want to go.   Millie, Year 7

I really enjoyed the GSL trip it was a very interesting experience. It developed my understanding of what being a good leader means, and it was really fun! It made me realize that even though I am nobody special, I can be if I want to and I can always make a change.  Hannah, Year 7

This year I was lucky enough to have the chance to participate in the Global Social Leaders programme in partnership with Townley.  Everyone who took part in this programme got to learn from an experienced and inspirational group leader who taught us key skills such as how to go from a good leader to a great leader and important social skills and project planning.  I really enjoyed this programme and I really hope I get the chance to participate in a programme like this again in the future; and maybe even share all the skills I learnt so I can be an Ambassador for the younger students.  Kezia, Year 7

I really enjoyed the GSL trip as it helped me to develop my leadership skills and confidence. I really liked how everyone was working together and everyone was included in their teams. The task I liked the most was when we had to lift up a stick with our fingers and we were outside for our classroom. Christabel, Year 7
