The Key Stage 4 Team consists of myself Louisa Butler as Learning Manager and Martina Fitzgerald as Assistant Learning Manager. Linda Blazeby, Assistant Head with responsibility for Pastoral, overseas the Learning Managers for all years and works closely with each member of the team.
Key Stage 4
At Townley, we encourage our students to strive for excellence and make good academic progress. Alongside this, we have plenty of extra-curricular activities to enable the students to further their thirst for knowledge and their love of learning. As Key Stage 4 Learning Manager I am here to provide strategies to support with specific subjects or highlight higher achievers, so as to set challenges for them. We also encourage the students to work with one another and to build team skills so essential in later life.
Year 10, when they are at the beginning of most of their GCSE qualifications, it is time to make the most of all that the school offers, and to plan for their future. Students start the autumn term with the first of three parts of study skills workshops over their GCSE years. This year, in the true sense is not the penultimate year but indeed the start of a four year journey through GCSE and Sixth form. To highlight the gravitas of this, the students are involved with various activities/training sessions to empower them to succeed. Sessions include ones on revision and study skills and strategies, talks by various powerful role models as well as enrichment opportunities across the curriculum.
Year 11 is the final year of GCSE studies and there is a real focus on effort, commitment and achievement. All students are encouraged to participate in the extra-curricular opportunities and where possible take the lead in school events. There is the second study skills work shop, Maximise Next Steps session, in the autumn term prior to their internal examinations, support and revision classes later in the year and the third and final Maximise Potential session in the build up to their public summer examinations in the spring term. Year 11 are preparing for the transition into sixth form and are guided through this process, considering A Level subjects and future career paths. High expectations are set and all students encouraged to do their very best.
Character and Wellbeing (CWB)
It is our mission at Townley to help your daughters become inspirational learners who have the courage to take risks and the wisdom to learn from their mistakes. We want them to continue to develop into responsible citizens with a social conscience, able to lead others and act as agents of change for a better society.
The Character and Wellbeing programme on Monday mornings is designed to enhance the educational, social and personal skills of the students. This will mainly take place with the House Tutors but specialist outside speakers will also be asked in to speak about key areas.
Key Stage 4 students investigate CWB sessions centred on drug awareness, sex and relationships, mental health, careers, female genital mutilation (FGM), mindfulness, citizenship, finance and study skills.
The Key Stage 4 Team, House Tutors and subject teachers are here to support your daughter. The House Tutor is your first point of reference as a parent/carer. They have oversight of your daughter’s daily attendance at lessons and monitor her progress and wellbeing very carefully, through communication with subject staff, parents/carers and with your daughter.
As part of my role I liaise with Subject and Cluster Leaders to track and monitor student progress. Data is provided by the data manager, Mrs Maddison, for us to analyse student performance. Any subject related concerns should be raised with the Head of Department in the first instance.
We all work closely with the student services team to ensure the pupils are given support and guidance when necessary. I would ask you to please inform House Tutors, Mrs Fitzgerald or myself of anything that might affect your daughter’s progress at school.
