Update from the Music Department
The Music Department over the years has had a strong tradition with its instrumental groups, and the Orchestra has been at the core of the department. In recent years the rehearsals have been during the school day, at lunchtime, and we have noticed that the time spent rehearsing has only been a maximum of 30 minutes per week, which has led to the development and high standards of playing, slipping. We decided to move the Orchestral rehearsals to after school, from 3.45pm - 4.45pm, so that we can increase these standards back up to where they were previously, and to ensure that there is ample rehearsal time for everybody to rehearse. Orchestra is suitable for students who can play an instrument from grade 3 standard, regardless of if they have taken exams or not. It is not suitable for beginners, and there are various other instrumental ensembles that happen during the week to accommodate those players, please enquire at the Music Office for more information.
While we appreciate that some students have commitments after school, we would ask that this change be embraced by all students and parents and be fully supported by their attendance. This will ensure that the traditions of the school orchestra are upheld, especially as the Music Department is such a lively, thriving part of the school, in which all musicians are welcomed and encouraged to take part, regardless of age or ability.
