Mastery Programme
Townley Mastery 2024/2025
The statement below went out to students & parents on 14th October 2024, explaining the Townley Mastery Programme.
We are writing to inform you about a new and tailored approach to support your child’s academic learning. Launching next week, Townley Mastery will offer a host of focused intervention and support sessions that aim to build upon the foundation of knowledge that your child has already gained within the classroom. Mastery is also a proactive approach to help students hone specific skills and develop specific strategies to achieve even greater academic success. Each session is designed to help students delve deeper into their subjects, strengthen their mastery, and approach their studies with increased confidence.
Townley Mastery sessions will:
- Be held in addition to timetabled lessons.
- Be held at the end of the school day (3.45-5.00pm).
- Be run by teachers within that field of expertise.
- Be available to all year groups.
- Focus on specific skills, knowledge or (for the Middle and Upper Schools) examination questions.
We are writing to parents/carers in advance of the schedule being published as there may be teachers who wish to discuss the Mastery sessions with their class or with individual students. In addition, although the sessions will be made available to all students, you may receive early communication from Arbor if your child has been identified as being someone who would particularly benefit from one of the sessions offered. If you receive this communication with an invitation to attend a specific session, please could we ask that you respond promptly to confirm or decline the offer.
Next week, all parents and carers will be provided with a timetable of the scheduled Mastery sessions up until the end of the Autumn term. Details of how to sign up will be shared with you at the same time.
While the sessions are optional, we strongly recommend participation, especially if your child would benefit from additional practice or wants to excel in particular areas. When the schedule is published, please review it together with your child and decide which sessions would be most beneficial. Additional sessions will follow as each new term begins.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs H Ronan
Assistant Headteacher - Teaching & Learning
