Alumni
Townley Grammar is proud of our students and alumni and love hearing about where their journeys have continued to.
Townley Grammar School was first established in 1937 and in that long history many students have passed through its doors and onto full and enriching lives and careers. We recognise that today, more so than ever, we depend upon the people we meet and the contacts we make. The time spent at Townley has not only brought friendships, but also a professional network that can serve past and current students.
Townley Alumni include Baroness Valerie Amos, Director of SOAS - The School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London (Baroness Amos was appointed a Labour life peer in 1997 and was the first black woman to serve as a Minister in the British Cabinet and in the House of Lords); Zoe Smith, Team GB Weightlifter, Commonwealth Gold Medallist and European Bronze Medallist and up and coming actress Gillian Saker.
However, there are many more former Townley students in diverse fields and positions who wish to play their part in supporting members of the Townley community. We therefore offer all those who have attended Townley the opportunity to become a member of the Townley Alumni - the school’s official former student network. Membership is free and the association is a popular way for past students to maintain contact with their fellow Alumni and the wider school community.
Alumni benefits include access to a growing network of professional contacts and resources, regular updates featuring all the latest news from Townley, invites to exclusive Alumni events and the opportunity to give something back to the community in the form of in-school Alumni talks (members regularly come back and speak to current students about their post Townley learning and career journey), acting as educational and career role models, helping with work experience placements, mentoring and fundraising. This is all in addition, of course, to staying in touch with the friends made during your time at Townley.
The Townley Alumni has a great deal to offer its members in a variety of ways and we hope that you will enjoy taking advantage of these services, both in your professional and personal lives. Our aim is to help you stay connected to the school and to serve as an ongoing resource throughout your academic studies, your career journey and beyond, ensuring that you always feel a part of the Townley community.
Every student at Townley, past and present, has demonstrated that to achieve and strive to be better is a rarity that gives one’s life value. It is this status that all Townley Alumni possess. As Alumni you will illuminate others and act as inspiration for those that follow.
